How to make it BIG in 2010

After attending the Make it Big in 2010 conference in London last weekend, I thought I'd share some tips and ideas from it with you. Just as a bit of background: the event was organised by Daniel Priestley of Triumphant Events and featured speakers such as James Caan (of Dragon's Den), Kevin Green (Secret Millionnaire property developer), Penny Power (founder of Ecademy), Topher Morrison (professional NLP speaker), Roger Hamilton (Best selling author and creator of Wealth Dynamics), Mike Harris (founder of First Direct) and many more. It was truly a meeting of great minds and an excellent way to get some fantastic ideas on how to make it BIG in 2010.

First of all it was clear that all speakers shared the same optimistic outlook for 2010: it is the year of massive opportunities if you are willing to look for them. They may not come from the traditional sources, but we live in times of unparalleled possibilities, thanks to the advances in technology and communication. You can now start a business in almost anything and be able to communicate with the global market place in a way that would have cost you millions a mere 10 years ago. So here are the best tips from some of the topics that were discussed:

Kevin Green
Don't use your own money. Work with credit cards and mortgages and use the leverage to create massive opportunities. NOW is the time to buy (in fact 3 months ago was the time to buy, but it's still not too late).

James Caan
When things start to go wrong, THAT's when creativity starts to come out. That's when you will SEARCH for the answers until you've found somebody who knows the answer. Listen to advice and also know when to quit. Invest in yourself - spend at least 10% of your income on training and development of YOU.

Roger Hamilton
If you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything. Make sure that you know what you and your company stand for.

Mike Harris
The key ingredients for a successful business are:
* have an elite idea
* behave like an iconic brand
* create a high-performance environment

Penny Power
Of all the roles you have in life, the one of Friend is the most important. Be a friend to everyone and you will be successful. Emotion is the key; if you're not emotional about your business, nobody will be! Base your business philosophy on "know me, like me and follow me".
Know me = broadcasting your message to strangers
Like me = sharing conversations with friends
Follow me = being a thought leader and adding real value to other people

Daniel Priestley
Use social media to grow your business. Use Facebook to create very targeted ads that go to your exact target audience. Use Twitter to have conversations with them (not to sell them things). If you want to create a successful business, ask yourself these 2 questions:
* Is my service creating a solution now to a problem to be had by a lot of people?
* Who else is doing it and what makes me unique?

Hopefully these little snippets have given you some useful ideas for your business. As always, feel free to contact me if you have any issues you would like to discuss. As you can see I invest time and money in staying up to date. I do this not only for my own benefit, but also for the benefit of my clients!
